LEFT BRAIN VERSUS RIGHT BRAIN USE

There is a belief that the two different sides of the brain control two different "modes" of thinking and that most individuals prefer either one or the other mode of thinking.

There is evidence to support that the left brain and right brain think differently, for example:

Left Brain

Right Brain

Logical
Sequential
Rational
Analytical
Objective
Looks at parts

Random
Intuitive
Holistic
Synthesizing
Subjective
Looks at wholes

Most individuals demonstrate a preferential style of thinking, ie left brain or right brain.  Some individuals, however, are equally capable of both styles of thinking and are more "whole-brained".

Secondary education is more inclined to support left-brain styles of thinking over the left right-brain styles.  Thus, school subjects encourage more logical and analytical thinking with an emphasis on accuracy.

Right-brain subjects, however, are more focused on emotions, aesthetics and creativity.
